There is something about a sweet treat run in Tyler that turns into an experience. It’s not just about what you order, it’s where you go, who you’re with, and the little moments you create along the way.
Andy’s Frozen Custard has always been one of our favorite places to treat ourselves, and right now, they have given locals another reason to make a visit sooner rather than later. (And I do mean, sooner!)
In celebration of 40 years, Andy’s has rolled out two limited-time flavors that are only available through April 28, and they consist of what (I think) Andy’s does best: real cake folded into freshly made frozen custard.
The ANDYversary Chocolate Cake Concrete brings together vanilla frozen custard and a full slice of rich chocolate cake, creating a dessert that feels like a celebration in every bite. The Gooey Butter Cake Concrete has returned as a fan favorite (Hi, I’m one of the fans!), blending soft pieces of butter cake with vanilla custard and a smooth salted caramel finish. Both are also available as sundaes, making it easy to choose your style.
I had already tried the Gooey Butter Cake Concrete when Andy’s featured it several months ago, so when I heard it was back, I wasted no time going out to get another one! The Gooey Butter Cake Concrete is loaded with actual chunks of cake that stay soft and fresh throughout, not just mixed in as an afterthought. Every bite has that rich, buttery flavor balanced with the cold, creamy custard and just enough caramel to bring it all together. It is the kind of dessert that keeps you going back for one more bite without even thinking about it. Dangerous, but oh so good!
This visit in particular turned into more than just dessert. Sitting in the Atrium of the Plaza Tower with my son, we slowed down long enough to enjoy our concretes and wander through the Main Street Art Gallery tucked inside the space. It added a layer to the experience that you don’t expect from a simple treat run, and it’s something worth building into your next visit.
Getting there right now is easier than most people think. With construction happening downtown, there is free parking in the lot behind Plaza Tower. You can enter through the back, and there are plenty of signs guiding you the whole way, making it simple to navigate even if you haven’t been in a while.
And, we’re probably in the minority here, but my 8-year-old LOVES watching all of the construction equipment and crew in action. It’s one of his favorite parts of visiting Andy’s on the Square.
But both limited-time flavors are available at both Andy’s locations in Tyler, which means you have options no matter where you are in town. These are not flavors that will stick around, and once they’re gone, they’re gone.
Tyler has tons of places to grab something sweet, but for us, Andy’s always feels a little more like an outing than a quick stop. If you are looking for your next treat, this is the one worth making time for before April 28.
